Establishment of Ketereh District Council
Ketereh District Council was officially established on 1 January 1979 equivalent to 2 Safar 1399H with the name of the Kota Bharu District Council (MDKB) as the result in the restructuring of local authorities in Kelantan under Act 171, Local Government Act. The name of Kota Bharu District Council was then changed to Ketereh District Council on 31 January 2006equivalent to 1 Muharram 1427H. On 7 December 2010 or 1 Muharram 1432H, Ketereh District Council was declared as anIslamic Municipality and was known as the Ketereh District Council Islamic Municipality (MDKPI).
Coverage Area
Ketereh District Council covers an area of 155.90 square kilometres, covering the whole of Ketereh District, Peringat District, Kadok District, Salor Sub-district (Salor District), Pendek Sub-district (Pendek District) and Badak Mati Sub-district (Banggu District). On 9 September 2004, the gazetting of the new area of 49.04 square kilometres which included the District of Beta, Salor, Lembu Sub-district and part of Tiong Sub-district (within Pendek District) was approved which resulted in a total new area of 204.94 square kilometres. The administrative centre for Ketereh District Council is located in the town of Ketereh, 20 km to the south of Kota Bharu.
The total coverage area of Ketereh covers the District of Peringat as well as sub-districts of Pendek, Salor, Badak Mati and Kadok. Furthermore, on 2 June 2004, the size of this area increased by 49.04 square kilometres from incorporating the districts of Beta, Salor as well as sub-districts of Lembu and Tiong.
